Roberto Martinez rues 'bad luck' at Tottenham Hotspur

Everton manager Roberto Martinez believes that his side were unfortunate to leave White Hart Lane without a point.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has claimed that his side were unfortunate to leave White Hart Lane without a point on Sunday.

The Toffees had the lion's share of possession in the capital and registered 11 attempts at goal, but they suffered a 1-0 loss after Emmanuel Adebayor netted the winner on 65 minutes with Tottenham Hotspur's first shot on target.

"It is fair to say at times in football you are better to be lucky than good and today we played the good role, not the lucky one," Martinez told reporters.

"But I thought from our point of view the only criticism about the first-half performance is that you need to hit the back of the net with the chances we had.

"I thought [Spurs goalkeeper Hugo] Lloris was outstanding in two actions, but then we had three very, very good opportunities that on another day we would have scored that important first goal."

Tottenham's victory catapulted them above Everton into fifth place in the Premier League table.
