Mauricio Pochettino hopes Dele Alli can develop into Tottenham's Paul Pogba

Pochettino wants Alli to develop like Pogba

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that Dele Alli has the potential to be as good as Juventus star Paul Pogba.

The 19-year-old signed a new five-year deal with Spurs on Tuesday, despite only joining the club last summer.

In his first season at White Hart Lane so far, Alli has scored five goals in 18 Premier League games, and Pochettino is confident that the youngster can match the talent of Pogba who joined Juventus in 2012 after being released by Manchester United.

"Football is about being versatile," Pochettino told The Mirror. "We need to help a player like Dele Alli improve, not put him in a box.

"He needs to feel free on the pitch and we need to help him improve in different positions because a versatile player like Pogba has a big, big value."

Alli's new deal will keep the midfielder at the club until 2021.
