Andre Villas-Boas hails Stoke City defence

Andre Villas-Boas hails the quality of Stoke City's defence after his side's 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has praised Stoke City's defence after their 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane.

Villas-Boas's side were unable to break down Stoke and bring their seven-match unbeaten run to an end.

The Portuguese coach claimed that his players "tried everything" to get all three points, but made sure Tony Pulis's side got plenty of credit for their performance.

"It is difficult to break them down. We tried everything from the first minute but Stoke proved why they are on a magnificent unbeaten run," said the former Chelsea boss.

"It's difficult to create chances against them. We had lots of possession and lots of shots from outside the box, but we can't be negative because we gave it a go.

"We tried to get the three points but we couldn't do it today."

Spurs now find themselves in fifth place in the Premier League.
