Hull City on verge of relegation after succumbing to Tottenham Hotspur defeat

Hull City edge closer to relegation from the Premier League after succumbing to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur in their clash at White Hart Lane.

Hull City are on the brink of relegation from the Premier League after succumbing to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Europa League-chasing Tottenham Hotspur in their clash at White Hart Lane.

The visitors were quickest out of the starting blocks as David Meyler was given space on the edge of the area five minutes in, but his shot was charged down.

Two minutes later, Hull came forward again, but Dame N'Doye's effort clipped a boot on the way to goal and was easily caught by Hugo Lloris.

Spurs soon worked their way into the game as Federico Fazio, Erik Lamela and Eric Dier all weighed in forward with a number of efforts.

The Tigers, however, countered by fashioning the best chance of the half in the 20th minute when Nikica Jelavic smashed a half-volley against the bar.

Ryan Mason then did well to reach the byline and cut the ball back in the 39th minute, but Lamela succeeded only in poking past the post as neither side managed to break the deadlock before the break.

Hull began the second half brightly, but were caught out in the 54th minute as Lamela split their defence with a through ball to Nacer Chadli, who duly rounded Steve Harper to open the scoring.

The game was settled just after the hour when Mason lofted the ball over the top of the Tigers defence to Danny Rose, whose first-time volley went off the bar and into the goal.

Steve Bruce's charges could have pulled a goal back midway through the second half following a goalmouth scramble that saw Abel Hernandez have three shots at goal, but all were blocked.

N'Doye then ended the move by firing wide and had another chance moments later when he put a header over the bar from the corner.

Hull simply could not muster up a response as Spurs saw the game out and condemned their opponents to a bottom-three berth ahead of the final Premier League day.
