Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur have been granted permission to discuss personal terms with Christian Eriksen.
The North Londoners have reportedly opened with a bid of £7m, and although that falls £5m short of the Dutch club's valuation the two parties are pressing ahead with negotiations.
"Yes, [Daniel] Levy was here today to discuss the transfer but there is no agreement yet until everything is signed," Overmars told De Telegraaf.
"Eriksen is going to talk with Tottenham now. Obviously, if it happens, we won't be happy at all to lose him."
Spurs have also agreed a €30m (£25.8m) deal with Roma for Argentinian forward Erik Lamela.
