Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale was reportedly forced to extend his contract at White Hart Lane.
The 23-year-old signed a new deal last month, committing himself to Spurs until the summer of 2016.
According to The Mirror, Bale informed chairman Daniel Levy that he wanted to quit the club, but his contract was automatically upgraded as a result of Spurs finishing inside the top four.
Bale is understood to have received a pay rise as part of his new contract, making him the highest earner at the club.
