Djed Spence insists that he still wants to forge a career at Tottenham Hotspur following the completion of his loan spell with Genoa.

Djed Spence has revealed that he wants to stay at Tottenham Hotspur when he returns to the club following his loan spell with Genoa.

Spence was unable to force his way into the Tottenham side after completing a move from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2022.

The 23-year-old made just six appearances for Spurs before he was loaned out to Rennes for the second half of the 2022-23 season.

Despite returning to the club last summer, Spence failed to impress newly-appointed Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, and he was subsequently loaned out to Leeds United for the first half of the campaign.

After having his stay at Leeds cut short in January, the former Nottingham Forest man headed straight back out the door to join Genoa for the remainder of the season.

Following his January switch to Serie A, Spence hinted that he would be open to converting his loan move into a permanent deal.

However, he has now revealed that he has not given up hope of forging a career at Spurs and plans to hold talks with Postecoglou over his future.

"I want to play for Tottenham," Spence told The Athletic. "I want to be a big part of the plan but we've got to see how things go, have a discussion with the manager and everyone.

"It's a big difference with the new manager, I did pre-season with him – he's a good guy, he has good training sessions, he likes to play football, it's a new environment at the club. I think everyone's enjoying it and doing well, I'm pleased for them."

"I don't think the Tottenham fans know me as a player. They've probably seen me from Forest days but I haven't played so they don't know what I'm capable of.

"The best is yet to come. Wherever I'll be, I can hit the ground running and show everyone what I'm capable of doing."

Spence, who is under contract with Tottenham until June 2027, has had no contact with his parent club since completing his temporary move to Italy.

The wing-back started his first three Serie A appearances, but he has since dropped out of the starting lineup for the club's last four matches.

Spence was left on the bench for games against Atalanta and Napoli, before he featured as a substitute in Genoa's most recent two outings against Udinese and Inter.
