Christian Eriksen signs new four-year contract at Tottenham Hotspur

Christian Eriksen signs a new four-year contract at Tottenham Hotspur, three years after he joined the club from Ajax.

Tottenham Hotspur have announced that Christian Eriksen has signed a new four-year contract at White Hart Lane.

The Denmark international has extended his stay at the North London outfit three years after he joined the club from Ajax for a fee thought to be in the region of £11m.

Eriksen, who earned a Player of the Year double at the club in his first season, has made 134 appearances in all competitions and scored 30 goals.

Eriksen played an important role in Tottenham's Premier League title challenge last season, but Mauricio Pochettino's men fell at the final hurdle as they relinquished the fight to eventual champions Leicester City.

There were rumours that Juventus were considering a move for the 24-year-old in the summer transfer window amid reports that the midfielder was demanding a £150,000-a-week salary.

However, the player himself has insisted that he always wanted to stay put at Spurs, who begin their Champions League campaign next week.

"There is a great future at this place and I wouldn't have signed if I didn't see that," Eriksen told Spurs TV. "It's always been the plan to sign a new deal and now it's happened I'm relieved and very happy."

The midfielder, who scored a goal and missed a penalty for Denmark last week, is expected to play in this weekend's match against Stoke City.
