Everton are confident of completing a deal for Steven Pienaar this week after agreeing to sell Tim Cahill to New York Red Bulls.
The 30-year-old has agreed personal terms with Everton and expects Tottenham Hotspur to allow him to join his old club, where he enjoyed a successful loan spell last season, once a fee has been agreed.
"I think we are much closer to Pienaar and hopefully in time I will have something, but I don't quite have it yet," Everton manager David Moyes said on Saturday following his side's pre-season draw with Motherwell.
Everton will have the funds available to make the deal for Pienaar a reality once Cahill has confirmed his move to Major League Soccer.
Pienaar will hope to be ready for selection in Everton's opening Premier League game at home to Manchester United on August 20.
