Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on bringing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to the Bernabeu in a blockbuster €200m (£177.6m) deal next summer.
Los Blancos are understood to have held a long-standing interest in Kane and are hopeful that the England captain's desire to win trophies would make him open to an exit from Spurs in 2020.
The North London outfit reached the final of the Champions League last season but have made an underwhelming start to the new campaign amid reports of unrest in the squad after key players such as Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen failed to secure moves away during the summer.
Reports in Spain suggest that Madrid president Florentino Perez believes Kane could be poached should Tottenham miss out on a top-four spot this season, particularly if manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has also been linked with Real, leaves as well.
Perez is willing to wait until the end of the season to see whether those factors align, which could also result in Tottenham's asking price for their star man dropping from £177.6m - a fee which would make him comfortably Madrid's most expensive ever signing.
The report goes on to say that Zinedine Zidane would be willing to alter his preferred formation to fit Kane into the team alongside Karim Benzema up front.
Kane has scored 169 goals in just 260 games for Tottenham across all competitions.
