Tottenham 27-year-old 'ready to terminate contract' as Spurs risk £25m transfer loss

Tottenham Hotspur outcast Sergio Reguilon reportedly wants to terminate his contract and end his North London nightmare.

Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon is reportedly prepared to terminate his Lilywhites contract in order to secure an exit from North London in January.

The Spain international has been ostracised from the ranks under Ange Postecoglou, who has only selected him for one matchday squad in the 2024-25 campaign.

That came in the 3-2 EFL Cup third-round win over Coventry City in September, but he was an unused substitute in the clash with the Championship side and has not been seen since.

Reguilon was not even considered for selection to Spurs' Europa League league phase squad, and he has not played a single minute of Premier League football in the 2024-25 season either.

Destiny Udogie is Spurs' undisputed first-choice left-back when fully fit, while the experienced Ben Davies and pacy Micky van de Ven are also preferred to Reguilon on that flank.

Reguilon only has just over a year left to run on his Spurs contract, meaning that he will be able to enter pre-contract talks with foreign teams in January before a free transfer at the end of the season.

However, the summer is apparently too long for Reguilon to wait, as according to the Sunday Mirror - via football.london - he wants Spurs to agree to a mutual contract termination.

The former Sevilla man is said to be pocketing £120,000 a week in North London, and Postecoglou made it clear in the summer that he was not in his plans, but Spurs were unable to find a buyer.

Now, Reguilon is apparently attracting interest from clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, who would have no problem forking out his hefty pay packet if he is to arrive on a free transfer.

Ripping up Reguilon's deal would see Spurs suffer a heavy loss on the £25m that they paid Real Madrid to sign the defender in 2020, prior to which he shone during Sevilla's 2019-20 Europa League triumph on loan.

The Spaniard has failed to adapt to life in the Premier League, though, only amassing two goals and eight assists from 67 matches in a Tottenham shirt, and his last appearance for the club came all the way back in April 2022.

In the two-and-a-half years that have passed since his most recent Spurs game, Reguilon has endured mixed fortunes on loan at Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Brentford, struggling with the former two but coming good for the Bees with four assists in 16 games.

What other Tottenham players could leave in 2025?

The aforementioned Davies is another long-serving Spurs man who could head elsewhere in 2025, as the Welshman's contract is also up at the end of the season, and an extension is seen as unlikely given his age.

The agent of Radu Dragusin has also refused to rule out an exit for his client if his game time situation does not improve, although the Romanian has started Spurs' last three Premier League matches thanks to injuries to Van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

Davies and Dragusin paired up and kept an unforeseen clean sheet in Saturday's 4-0 demolition of Manchester City, as Postecoglou's men condemned the champions to their fifth straight loss in all competitions.
