Tottenham Hotspur reportedly face the prospect of fierce competition in the race to sign Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly expected to face fierce competition for Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott.

Ever since the prospect made his Robins debut at the age of 17, it has been suggested that he has the potential to play at a higher level.

Still only 19 years old, Scott has already made 81 appearances for Bristol City, contributing five goals and seven assists in all competitions.

The most recent of those outings came on Tuesday evening as Scott featured in a side which lost 3-0 to Manchester City in the FA Cup fifth round.

Despite being on the losing team, Scott was namechecked by City boss Pep Guardiola, who described the Englishman as an "unbelievable" talent.

Even before making an impression versus the Premier League champions, Scott was already on the radar of many clubs currently competing in the top flight.

Spurs, along with Wolverhampton Wanderers, have been monitoring his development for some time, the latter said to have had at least one bid rejected in January.

However, according to the Daily Mail, West Ham United are the latest club to shortlist Scott as a potential target.

David Moyes already has Declan Rice, Lucas Paqueta, Tomas Soucek and Flynn Downes at his disposal, with Rice and Paqueta now generally regarded as first choice.

Nevertheless, the Hammers board find themselves in a situation where they will have to assess whether to cash in on Rice this summer or accept a lower price for their most prized asset in 2024.

Although Scott would not represent a like-for-like alternative to the England international, any funds generated from Rice would free up the opportunity to meet Bristol City's £25m asking price.

Newcastle United are also allegedly interested in Scott as they target at least one fresh face for the middle of the pitch ahead of 2023-24.

Scott, an England Under-20 international, has a contract at Ashton Gate until 2025, with it realistically unlikely that he will consider an extension due to the level of interest in his services.
