Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Matthew Craig has joined Doncaster Rovers on loan for the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign.

The 20-year-old was part of the Watford youth academy before joining Spurs as an Under-12s player, and he signed his first professional deal with the Lilywhites in the summer of 2021.

Last year, Craig's terms were extended until the end of the 2025-26 season on account of his continued progression at youth level, and he made his first-team debut on the final day of the 2022-23 Premier League campaign, coming off the bench in a 4-1 win over Leeds United.

The 2003-born midfielder has not made another first-team appearance since, but he has worn the captain's armband during Tottenham Under-21s' perfect start to their Premier League 2 season and also played the full 90 in a 5-0 EFL Trophy win over Colchester United.

Having excelled at academy level, Craig will now enjoy his first loan spell away from Tottenham with League Two outfit Doncaster, whom he hailed as an "incredible" club upon his arrival.

"I'm delighted to get this done. The history and the size of the club is incredible. The manager, his philosophy how he wants to play, I think it really aligns with what I try to do as well. I'm just overjoyed to be here," Craig told the official Doncaster Rovers website.

Rovers manager Grant McCann added: "He's a very good player. We've been tracking Matthew since the summer window shut with numerous games watched and reports done on him.

"He comes here with good pedigree and he's ready for the challenge. He's going to be a very good player and to get him in this early in the window is great."

Craig was born in London but has represented Scotland up to Under-21 level, and he could make his Doncaster debut in Saturday's League Two showdown with Newport County.
