Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga joins Augsburg on loan with an obligation to buy in 2024 under certain conditions.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga has joined Augsburg on a season-long loan with a conditional obligation to buy.

The 24-year-old struggled for game time during Antonio Conte's spell in charge of the Lilywhites, and his fortunes have not improved since Ange Postecoglou arrived.

Tanganga was supposedly blocked from moving to AC Milan in January, but he made just seven appearances across all competitions last season and has not made a matchday squad in 2023-24.

In search of regular minutes, Tanganga will spend the upcoming season on loan with Augsburg, who will sign him permanently in 2024 for a reported €6m (£5.1m) if unspecified conditions are met.

The former England Under-21 international joined the Lilywhites academy in 2009, and he made his first-team breakthrough under Jose Mourinho during the 2019-20 campaign.

Tanganga has since brought up 50 appearances for the Tottenham senior team in all competitions, registering one assist, but he played just 146 minutes of Premier League football last season.

The defender follows Sergio Reguilon, Harry Kane, Joe Rodon, Djed Spence, Lucas Moura and Harry Winks out of the Tottenham exit door, and the Lilywhites could also sanction the exits of Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele before the window slams shut at 11pm.
