St Mirren have moved to solve their goalkeeping dilemma by signing Dean Lyness on a short-term deal.
With Aberdeen loanee Danny Rogers still out injured, boss Oran Kearney has been on the hunt for back-up to number one Craig Samson.
Now former Birmingham and Hearts keeper Lyness has agreed to act as understudy after signing until January following a stint on trial.
Lyness kicked off his career at St Andrew's and had spells in Scotland with the Jambos and East Fife.
After returning to England he spent time with Kidderminster, Burton, Blackpool and Nuneaton.
Lyness said: "I've been in training for a while and obviously made an impression on the coaching staff.
"I got the call that the club was going to make me an offer and I'm delighted to get it sorted.
"I just want to make as best an impression as I can and make sure I am ready if required."
Saints goalkeeping coach Jamie Langfield added: "It's something we had been looking at with Danny Rogers' injury.
"It was important to get someone in and we know he'd played at a good level.
"Dean has a great work rate and work ethic and impressed us."
