Stoke City weather Leicester City fightback to win

Stoke City edge out Leicester City 2-1 to qualify for the FA Cup fourth round.

Stoke City have edged out Leicester City 2-1 to book themselves in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Kenwyne Jones scored a header after 16 minutes to give the Potters the half-time advantage when he converted from Oussama Assaidi's cross.

Charlie Adam scored a second-half screamer when his 25-yard effort bounced off the post before nestling into the Leicester net.

Shortly before the opening goal, Ignasi Miquel made a superb block to deny Adam when the Scot fired in a shot with the goal at his mercy.

Athony Knockaert had an ambitious attempt to equalise with a 35-yard volley before Jeff Schlupp fired wired after Paul Konchesky teed the Ghanaian striker up.

Jones nearly added a second on the half-hour mark when he headed over from Adam's corner.

Adam extended the lead shortly after the restart with a superbly struck left-footed effort that left Kasper Schmeichel with no chance in the Foxes' goal.

David Nugent reduced the deficit with 13 minutes to go when his header beat Jack Butland in the Stoke goal for his 14th goal of the campaign.

The visitors had Mark Hughes's side on the ropes following the goal, but they were unable to turn their dominance into an equaliser as the Potters held on to secure their passage to the fourth round.
