Preview: Stoke City vs. Burnley

Sports Mole previews the Premier League clash between Stoke and Burnley at the Britannia Stadium as both sides look to build on good pre-international break results.

Burnley's British brigade travel to Stoke City in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon looking to build on their long-awaited first win since promotion.

A BBC Sport study this week showed that the Clarets are solely responsible for the 4% rise in top-flight game time handed to British players this term.

Sean Dyche's homegrown squad remain bottom of the table, but ended a 10-match wait for a Premier League win this campaign courtesy of a second-half Ashley Barnes header against Hull City a fortnight ago.

The international break arguably came at a bad time for both the Lancashire outfit and the Potters, who recorded a confidence-boosting 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur in their last outing to climb to ninth.

Stoke too maintain a reasonable quota of British talent, but it was one of their continental signings who stole the show as Bojan came to life with his first goal for the club since his summer arrival from Barcelona.

The former Roma forward will be given another opportunity to impress behind lone striker Mame Biram Diouf this weekend, with Peter Crouch again likely to have to settle for a place among the substitutes.

Phil Bardsley and Marc Wilson are back in contention after being forced to withdraw early on at White Hart Lane, but Mark Hughes will be without Peter Odemwingie, Glenn Whelan and Robert Huth.

Back on home turf, Hughes may be tempted to explore a more attacking option to Jonathan Walters on the wing, but the Irishman scored against Spurs and should keep Marko Arnautovic on the bench.

Dyche could name the same side that beat Hull, with Barnes in support of Danny Ings. Michael Kightly is pushing for a recall, but Scott Arfield and George Boyd may be preferred for the trip to Staffordshire.

Welshman Sam Vokes is back in first-team training for the Clarets, but is not expected to make his return until the start of next month. Matt Taylor also remains sidelined after undergoing Achilles surgery.

Stoke have not lost any of their last six matches against Burnley in all competitions.
