Stoke City chairman Peter Coates says that midfielder Joe Allen will not be sold during the January transfer window.

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has revealed that the club will not consider any offers for Joe Allen during the January transfer window.

After starring in Wales's run to the Euro 2016 semi-finals, Allen has impressed for Stoke since signing from Liverpool and it is expected that clubs in the top half of the Premier League will consider bidding for his signature.

However, Coates has insisted that the Potters will not entertain any bids for the 26-year-old after he helped the club put together an unbeaten six-game run.

He is quoted by the Stoke Sentinel as saying: "I never mind our players getting lots of attention because it means they are doing well. You ride that. He's under contract with us, enjoying his football and he's a big asset for us.

"We are not going to be selling anybody in January. I'm delighted for him. I don't worry about things like that. We cross that bridge if it comes along.

"He's been a great success, as everybody has seen. He's done really well for Wales and just as well for us."

Allen has scored four goals in 13 appearances in all competitions this season.
