Half-Time Report: West Bromwich Albion in control at Sunderland

Goals from Zoltan Gera and Shane Long give West Brom a 2-0 half-time lead over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

West Bromwich Albion have a 2-0 half-time lead over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in this afternoon's Premier League encounter.

Zoltan Gera and Shane Long got the goals for the Baggies as they look to record a fourth consecutive win.

The home side had an early attempt at goal, but Adam Johnson's tame strike was easily held by Boaz Myhill.

Both teams showed plenty of attacking intent through the half as Claudio Yacob put his header over the crossbar before Myhill was called into action again to keep out Stephane Sessegnon's attempt at goal.

Sessegnon was denied by Myhill for a second time midway through the half when his header was pushed away by the shotstopper.

The Baggies made the breakthrough with 30 minutes on the clock and it was Gera who lashed an unstoppable shot from 25 yards into the top corner.

Mignolet's afternoon got worse in the final minutes of the half as he spilled Chris Brunt's overhit pass, allowing Long to tap home a simple finish.
