Sunderland's on-loan striker Fabio Borini believes that he and his teammates can be "proud", despite losing to Manchester City in the Capital One Cup final.
The Italian, who is on loan with the Black Cats from Liverpool, opened the scoring, but goals from Yaya Toure, Samir Nasri and Jesus Navas in the second half ensured victory for City.
"The feeling is that we're proud of what we're done," the Northern Echo quotes Borini as saying. "We're disappointed with the result, but not with the performance. We know we've been here and played a great game.
"We know that Manchester City had to win that game - we didn't give them anything. They showed us the quality they have with two incredible goals, goals we couldn't do very much about, but they never found it easy. We kept going."
In the Premier League, Sunderland sit third from bottom in the table.
