Labour MP David Miliband backs the current ongoing changes behind the scenes at Sunderland.

Labour MP for South Shields David Miliband has given his backing to the changes in the boardroom at Sunderland.

The Premier League club announced earlier this evening that Niall Quinn is to step down from his position as chairman, and will now spearhead a new international venture connected with the Black Cats.

Quinn will be replaced at the helm by the club's current owner Ellis Short.

Miliband, who is the non-executive vice-chairman at the Stadium of Light, believes that the move will bring the "best" out of Quinn and Short.

"SAFC board changes will put Niall Quinn's football brain to full/best use-his partnership w/Ellis Short bolted in place," Miliband said on Twitter.

Sunderland are currently 16th in the Premier League table.
