Martin O'Neill calls upon his Sunderland players to learn from their 4-0 defeat at West Bromwich Albion.

Martin O'Neill is hoping that his Sunderland side learn from this afternoon's 4-0 defeat at West Bromwich Albion.

The hosting Baggies scored two goals in either half to wrap up the victory at the Hawthorns.

After the match, O'Neill conceded that his team got exactly what they deserved.

"We didn't start well at all today and we played sloppily," O'Neill told BBC Sport. "West Brom were much better than us and deserved to win.

"It was a poor day for us and I hope that we can learn something from it. We were second best and we didn't deserve anything from the game."

Sunderland are currently ninth in the Premier League table.
