Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill describes his side's 4-1 win at Wigan this evening as the "best win since I've been here for every reason under the sun".

Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill has described this evening's emphatic 4-1 win at Wigan as the best result since his arrival on Weirside.

Goals from Craig Gardner, James McClean, Stephane Sessegnon and David Vaughan moved the Black Cats into the top half of the Premier League.

"I thought it was our best win since I've been here for every reason under the sun," said O'Neill.

The players were out on their feet against Man City a couple of days ago - and had a day less to prepare - but they summoned energy and courage that was fantastic."

The victory was Sunderland's fourth from six since O'Neill took over.
