Dick Advocaat has been given £50m to spend this summer after he was persuaded to remain as manager of Sunderland, according to reports.
The 67-year-old quit the club ten days ago, but performed a U-turn after the club consistently called him to stay on, having saved the Black Cats from relegation.
The former Netherlands boss is quoted by the Mirror as saying: "The owner wants to help me build that team. I saw over the last few months what a beautiful club it is, so I have decided to sign a new deal."
Sunderland's summer targets include Patrick Bamford, who spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, and Virgil van Dijk of Celtic.
The club may also look to make their move for Liverpool's Sebastian Coates permanent.
