New Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce has reportedly decided against signing Kevin Nolan.
The pair have previously worked together at Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United, who released the 33-year-old in August.
However, according to The Telegraph they will not be reunited for a third time at the Stadium of Light, despite Allardyce having recently admitted that Nolan's status as a free agent made him an attractive proposition.
The report adds that instead of Nolan, Allardyce has decided to bolster his striking options during the January transfer window.
It is also believed that if Allardyce is successful in his bid to sign a centre-forward, the club would be prepared to listen to offers for Jermain Defoe.
