Sunderland have announced that Darron Gibson has left the Stadium of Light by mutual consent.
The former Manchester United and Everton midfielder was suspended by the Championship club following his charge for driving with excess alcohol on March 17.
Police were called following reports of a crash in Dovedale Road in Sunderland just before midday on the day of the incident.
Gibson, 30, has not played since January 1 because of injury, and his contract was due to expire at the end of the season.
"Following the conclusion of his recent suspension, Darron Gibson will leave Sunderland AFC by mutual consent," the club confirmed in a statement on their website.
The Republic of Ireland international will appear at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court on April 17.
