Freiburg have fuelled speculation that they are prepared to sell Papiss Cisse by signing striker Sebastian Freis from Cologne.
Cisse, 26, is a reported transfer target for Sunderland, while Newcastle United are also believed to be monitoring the Senegal international's situation.
The addition of Fries could see Freiburg loosen their grip on Cisse, but they are still believed to want at least £8m for his services.
Cisse found the net on 22 occasions last season, while he has nine goals to his name this term.
