Sunderland midfielder Charalampos Mavrias has admitted that he must bide his time in an attempt to hold down a starting spot in the Premier League.
The 20-year-old, who made the move to the Stadium of Light 12 months ago, failed to force his way into the picture under Gus Poyet last season.
Despite being linked with a potential loan move to former club Panathinaikos, Mavrias is "determined" to make an impact with Sunderland this season.
"When I first came I knew what football is like and that I might have to be patient, this is football," the Northern Echo quotes him as saying. "Managers have different ideas and we had a change of manager last season to deal with.
"I have to keep working hard. I want to be a success in the Premier League. I came here because I want to play Premier League football and be a Premier League player. That's what I am determined to do."
The Black Cats continue their pre-season preparations tonight when they take on Real Betis.
