Sunderland have announced the signing of former Newcastle United goalkeeper Steve Harper on a deal until the end of the season.
The 40-year-old spent two decades on Newcastle's books, spending various spells on loan before leaving the Magpies in 2013.
Harper has been a free agent since leaving Hull City last year and has now signed for Newcastle's bitter rivals following the departure of Costel Pantilimon to Watford.
Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce told the club's official website: "Steve will be a positive addition to our goalkeeping stable. He has vast experience at the top level and that can only be beneficial to Vito Mannone and Jordan Pickford as they continue to develop. He knows the club well and, as an Easington lad born and bred, he needs no introduction to Sunderland."
Harper made 111 appearances in the Premier League for Newcastle.
