Jan Verthonghen snubs deadline day move to Sunderland

Vertonghen snubs Sunderland

Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen reportedly turned down a deadline day move to Sunderland because he wants to play Champions League football next season.

According to talkSPORT, the Eredivisie club were keen to cash in on the Belgian centre-back, who is one of Europe's most wanted talents.

Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle have all been linked with the 24-year-old, who has 35 caps for his country.

Vertonghen's contract expires in 2013, when it is expected he will leave the Amsterdam ArenA.
