John Hartson: 'I would be amazed if Swansea City sacked Garry Monk'

Former Wales striker John Hartson gives his backing to Garry Monk, saying that he would be "amazed" if the 36-year-old was sacked by Swansea City.

Former Wales international John Hartson has said that he would be "amazed" if Swansea City parted company with Garry Monk.

The 36-year-old guided Swansea to their highest ever league finish last season, but a run of just one win in eight matches has led to speculation that he could be on the verge of being sacked by the club.

However, Hartson believes that the upcoming games will give the Swans a chance to return to form and should be enough to keep Monk in the job.

"I'd be amazed if anything would happen with Garry Monk on the sacking front. Swansea are on a little bit of a poor run, but football is a results business and I think Garry is wise enough to know that he would come under pressure if they weren't getting results," he told talkSPORT.

"But I would be amazed if anything was to happen. Let's not forget that Swansea gave Garry an opportunity and he's done exceptionally well. They just recently gave him a new three-year contract at the start of the season, so they believe in him.

"He needs a couple of wins just to push the team further up the table. Their next three games are against Bournemouth and Leicester at home, with Liverpool away in between, so – although Leicester are doing very well - they have an opportunity now to pick up some points."

Swansea are currently 14th in the Premier League table having amassed 13 points from their 12 games so far.
