Garry Monk: 'We should appeal Lukasz Fabianski red card'

Swansea manager Garry Monk suggests that his side will look to appeal the red card handed out to goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski during their 3-1 defeat to West Ham United.

Swansea City coach Garry Monk has suggested that the club will look to appeal the red card handed out to goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski during Sunday's 3-1 defeat to West Ham United.

Monk's side lost to the Hammers at Upton Park in the Premier League, with keeper Fabianski receiving his marching orders for body-checking Diafra Sakho, who was originally given the advantage before hitting the post as he broke past the keeper's challenge.

"I don't think we dealt with the situation leading up to that point very well but before Fabianski makes any contact whatsoever, the player knocks it past with his left hand," Monk said after the game, according to talkSPORT.

"Realistically it should have been a free kick to us, it wasn't a clear goalscoring opportunity either - when you look at it with the replays it isn't [a red card].

"Hopefully we will appeal it, and I think we should. When you look at the replays and you look at the facts, it should be a handball and a free kick to us, and it isn't a clear goalscoring opportunity."

The defeat sees Swansea now occupying eighth position in the Premier League table.
