Luke Williams leaves Notts County to become the new head coach of Championship club Swansea City.

Luke Williams has left Notts County to become the new head coach of Swansea City.

A month has passed since the Championship outfit made the decision to part ways with Michael Duff, who only arrived in South Wales during the summer.

Since then, Alan Sheehan has been in charge on a temporary basis, instigating a vast improvement with 11 points being accumulated from seven matches.

However, a day before the club's FA Cup third-round tie against Morecambe, Swansea have announced the appointment of Williams.

The 43-year-old takes on the third job of his career having previously managed Swindon Town and more recently been in charge of Notts County.

Williams has transformed the East Midlands outfit from a National League side into promotion contenders from League Two, with Notts County having initially won last season's National League playoffs.

Despite losing four of their last six matches in League Two, Notts County remain in fifth position and also possess the best attacking record in the division.

Nevertheless, they will now look to progress without Williams at the helm, a result of a three-and-a-half-year contract being penned with Swansea.

Speaking to the club's official website, chairman Andy Coleman said: "As I have said previously, we have undertaken a diligent and detailed process to find our next head coach.

"I have been fortunate to spend a lot of time with Luke recently. I have looked him in the eye and know that we can trust Luke to be a coach and leader who is aligned with our vision for Swansea City.

"He fits right into the mould of other talented and ambitious young managers who have succeeded here. I am confident our supporters will be excited by and proud of this Luke Williams-led Swansea City team."

Williams will be in charge for Saturday's encounter with Morecambe before his first Championship fixture comes at Birmingham City on January 13, his reign starting with Swansea eight points adrift of the playoffs.
