Portugal nearly got off to the dream start as Ivan Cavaleiro's deflected cross almost caught out Patrik Carlgren in the Sweden goal, but to the AIK man's relief the ball crept just over the bar.
From the resulting corner Ricardo Pereira lashed a low drive from the edge of the box narrowly wide of goal, and Portugal's bright start continued as Sergio Oliveira rattled the crossbar with a 20-yard free kick just minutes later.
Sweden fought their way into the game as the half wore on, but again could have found themselves behind on 38 minutes when Raphael Guerreiro sent a long-range strike just over.
