Inter Milan held by Torino

Torino and Inter Milan share a goalless draw in their Serie A opener at the Stadio Olimpico.

Inter Milan have been held to a goalless draw by Torino in their first Serie A match of the season at the Stadio Olimpico this evening.

The hosts were given the chance to take the lead in the 20th minute when Nemanja Vidic gave away a penalty for dragging down Fabio Quagliarella inside the box.

Marcelo Larrondo stepped up to take the spot kick, but saw his effort beaten away by Samir Handanovic.

Andrea Ranocchia wasted the chance to give Inter the lead on the stroke of half time when he headed an effort wide.

Torino started the second half strongly and Quagliarella could only fire wide when he was picked out inside the box.

Pablo Osvaldo came on for Inter just before the hour mark and almost scored within moments of his arrival, but he could only head an effort wide of the far post.

Osvaldo came close again for Inter when he was slipped into the box by Hernanes, before seeing his shot saved at point-blank range by Daniele Padelli.

Vidic was sent off in stoppage time for the visitors for sarcastically applauding the referee, as the match ended goalless.
