Paulo Barreto and Alessio Cerci came close with chances for Torino early on, though neither could find the finish.

Cerci caused plenty of problems for the away side and continued to come close with his efforts on goal.

The Italian's persistence paid off on 42 minutes when he finished well to give Torino a 1-0 lead.

Rolando Bianchi broke free on 50 minutes, but he could not keep his composure and sent his shot wide.

Angelo Ogbonna almost doubled the home side's lead with a header on 56 minutes, but the defender was just off target with his effort.

Atalanta were given the opportunity to get back into the game when the referee gave them a penalty on 75 minutes. Denis stepped up for the away side and slotted home to draw the sides level.

Kamil Glik came close to restoring Torino's lead on 79 minutes, but the defender's header missed the target.

Valter Birsa then put the home side ahead on 87 minutes, securing all three points.
