Uruguay legend Alcides Ghiggia calls for Luis Suarez ban for 'biting'

Former Uruguay international Alcides Ghiggia believes that Luis Suarez should be banned if he is found guilty of biting.

Former Uruguay international Alcides Ghiggia believes that Luis Suarez deserves to be punished if he is found guilty of biting the shoulder of Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini.

The Liverpool striker could be banned by FIFA following the alleged incident, which took place during Uruguay's 1-0 victory in Natal at the World Cup.

While the Uruguayan camp appear to be in Suarez's corner following the alleged bite, Ghiggia, who scored the winning goal against Brazil in the 1950 World Cup final, has questioned the striker's mentality.

"I think a ban could be applied here because it's unheard of," BBC Sport quotes Ghiggia as saying.

"I don't know what this kid thinks and what goes through his head. Whether you're Uruguayan or of an other nationality, you always have to reproach these things on the field, this is not a war."

Suarez has been punished for similar incidents twice before in his career.
