Chances were wasted by both sides as the Vancouver Whitecaps and the Montreal Impact played out a goalless draw at BC Place.
Montreal started the match brightly, and were almost ahead inside four minutes when David Ousted was forced to tip Maxim Tissot's long-range effort past the post.
The visitors continued to look the more likely of the two sides to break the deadlock in the first half, with Jack McInerney firing wide from a tight angle following an inch-perfect pass from Hassoun Camara.
Montreal goalkeeper Troy Perkins was rarely troubled before the break, and made just one stop to keep out Kekuta Manneh's speculative strike from the edge of the box.
Vancouver were forced to survive extended spells of pressure once again in the second half as Tissot came close to opening the scoring once again with a powerful effort which rattled the crossbar from just inside the area.
The home side should have snatched the lead with just 13 minutes remaining of normal time, but Carlyle Mitchell's attempt from only a few yards out was impressively saved by Perkins.
One final chance was created by the Impact, but the woodwork saved the day for Vancouver once again when McInerney headed against the post from Tissot's cross.
