Nigel Reo-Coker's representative says that the player is close to joining the Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS.

Free agent Nigel Reo-Coker is in discussions with the Vancouver Whitecaps about a possible move to Major League Soccer.

The former West Ham United, Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers man has been without a club since January after a short-term deal at Ipswich Town came to an end last month.

However, the 28-year-old could now be about to quit British football in favour of moving across the Atlantic Ocean, according to the player's representative.

"[Vancouver coach] Martin Rennie did such a good job of selling the club to him," Richard Trafford told the newspaper Province. "It looks like the player will come.

"He had offers from Premier League teams, from Turkey and Greece, but he wants to come to [MLS] at a good age and make a good impact for a few years.

"It's a major league now. He thinks he can add something to the league."

Reo-Coker had also been linked with a move to the New York Red Bulls and Portland Timbers, but now looks likely to settle in Canada.
