Villarreal have seen their hopes of Champions League qualification dealt a blow with a 1-1 draw at home to struggling Real Betis in La Liga.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 71st minute when Bruno converted from the penalty spot following Javi Chica's foul on Ikechukwu Uche.

However, Villarreal's fortunes took a downward turn as Uche was shown a second yellow card by the referee with 10 minutes left to play.

Betis were able to take advantage of their extra man five minutes later when Ruben Castro arrived in the box to head past Sergio Asenjo.
