Joe Allen has admitted that the Welsh players are solely to blame for their recent 6-1 hammering by Serbia.
The Dragons followed up Saturday's World Cup qualifying defeat at home to Belgium with a conclusive loss in Novi Sad on Tuesday night.
With criticism already being aimed at manager Chris Coleman after only two competitive games in charge, Allen insists that the players need to take responsibility for the team's fortunes.
"To be fair to the manager he has done everything he can to prepare us and send us out on to the field. It's us as players who are letting everybody down at the moment," said the Liverpool midfielder.
"I can say that on behalf of all of us - me included - it just wasn't good enough and we were to blame."
Wales will resume their qualifying campaign at home to Scotland on October 12.
