Walsall manager Dean Smith has said that he was disappointed with his team's performance in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final loss to Bristol City.
Aden Flint and Mark Little led The Robins to a 2-0 lead, with Saddlers striker Jordan Cook hitting the post in the second half.
"We won't dwell on it, we knew it was a special occasion, we wanted to come here and embrace it. We have played against the champions elect in our league and just come up short," Smith told Sky Sports News.
"We didn't perform to anywhere near our level. It's too early to say whether there are regrets but some will be disappointed.
"I'm proud of the achievement of getting here but disappointed with the result. It's a big learning curve."
Walsall are currently four points clear of the League One relegation zone and will return to league action at Chesterfield next weekend.
