Sandro Wagner brace gives SV Darmstadt 98 victory over Werder Bremen

Sandro Wagner scores a brace to inspire SV Darmstadt 98 to a 2-1 comeback victory over visitors Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga.

Sandro Wagner's brace ensured that SV Darmstadt 98 came from behind to beat visitors Werder Bremen 2-1 at the Merck-Stadion am Bollenfalltor in the Bundesliga this evening.

Jan Rosenthal was provided with the perfect chance to give the hosts the lead in the 11th minute, but he could not find the finish after profiting from Konstantin Rausch's delivery into the box.

Rausch continued to cause problems for the Bremen defence, this time as he picked out Peter Niemeyer, who eventually fired off target from the centre of the box.

Bremen proved efficient, however, as they took the lead with their first chance of the game when Aron Johannsson headed into the bottom corner from Theodor Gebre Selassie's cross.

The lead was not to last too long, though, given that Felix Wiedwald soon brought down Rosenthal inside the area, leaving Wagner to convert the penalty into the bottom-right corner and level the scores.

Anthony Ujah might have moved Bremen back ahead after the break, only to send his tame header wide of the target despite an accurate ball in from Santiago Garcia.

Darmstadt's Wagner saved the fireworks until the closing stages, as he headed high into the centre of goal to cap off a memorable counter attack led by Marcel Heller and seal all three points for the hosts.
