Nicolas Anelka has reportedly walked out of a training session at West Bromwich Albion claiming that he is retiring from football.
The 34-year-old signed for the Baggies earlier this summer on a one-year deal following a short stint at Chinese outfit Shanghai Shenhua.
Despite having an option of a further year written into his contract, it is understood that while walking out on training, Anelka told staff at the club that he is retiring from the game, according to Sky Sports News.
The former Chelsea forward, who was described by West Brom head coach Steve Clarke as a "favourite" within the squad, recently suggested that he would end his career at The Hawthorns.
Anelka started in the Baggies' opening Premier League defeat to Southampton last weekend.
