Darren Fletcher: 'Saido Berahino did a job for the team today'

West Bromwich Albion captain Darren Fletcher believes that Saido Berahino 'did a job for the team' in their 1-0 win against Aston Villa.

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Darren Fletcher praised striker Saido Berahino's performance in the club's 1-0 win against Aston Villa.

The Baggies turned down two bids from Tottenham Hotspur for the 22-year-old on deadline day, leading to Berahino hitting out at chairman Jeremy Peace and announcing that he would not play for him again.

However, manager Tony Pulis has brought the England Under-21 international back into the team and Berahino replied with a winning goal against their local rivals.

Fletcher told Sky Sports News: "He's been through a lot and we keep emphasising that he is a good lad and well liked in the dressing room, the player has got ambition and you cannot fault that.

"The club never got the money that they would have liked for him because he is such a good player but he is here and he will keep showing everyone that he is a good player.

"He scored today, he did a job today for the team on the left which is not a natural position for him but he dug in and worked ever so hard and that is what we have all come to expect from him.

"I was really pleased for him today and it means a lot to the fans as well."

West Brom jump into the top half of the Premier League with the win while Aston Villa sit just a point outside of the relegation zone.
