Tony Pulis: 'Social media beat us, not Queens Park Rangers'

Tony Pulis blames social media for luring West Brom into a false sense of security following the 4-1 home defeat to QPR.

West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis has blamed Saturday's 4-1 defeat to releagation-threatened Queens Park Rangers on social media.

First-half goals from Eduardo Vargas, Charlie Austin and Bobby Zamora helped Rangers into a 3-0 lead at The Hawthorns, before Joey Barton added a fourth late on after Victor Anichebe reduced the arrears.

Pulis has now suggested that social media was a leading factor in the result for breeding a sense of complacency in his side, as Albion came into the clash with an 11-point cushion from the danger zone.

"It just wasn't our day. First half we were awful and some of the goals we conceded were very, very poor," he told BBC Sport.

"We just looked flat. The problem today is players listen to social media and media and they might think this is job done.

"But it isn't, we need points to stay in the league. It's a relentless league and, as I said to them afterwards, until you get over the line, you just can't take anything for granted."

Youssuf Mulumbu was also sent off for the hosts on 84 minutes, when they were trailing 3-1.
