Matej Vydra rescues late point for West Bromwich Albion

Matej Vydra scores an 86th-minute equaliser in West Bromwich Albion's 1-1 draw with Hull City.

Matej Vydra scored his first West Bromwich Albion goal with four minutes remaining to rescue a late point in his side's 1-1 draw with Hull City this afternoon.

James Chester nodded over the bar from Tom Huddlestone's 10th-minute corner as the away side threatened in the opening quarter of the match, although Allan McGregor had to dash out to smother the ball with Shane Long lurking.

Scott Sinclair came within inches of controlling Long's through ball in the 25th minute, but the former Chelsea man couldn't quite stretch enough.

Hull broke to devastating effect in the 28th minute to take the lead. After a West Brom move had broken down, the ball was moved swiftly to Danny Graham, who teed up the onrushing Jake Livermore to lash the ball home from a narrow angle.

David Meyler then saw his drive deflected wide before entering the book, while James Morrison blazed his effort over the bar from the edge of the box at the other end.

Saido Berahino came on at the break and McGregor had to alert to push the Burundi-born striker's effort away eight minutes after his introduction. Long then cut inside and fired an effort over the bar as the home side looked to gather momentum.

However, they had their goalkeeper to thank a few minutes later as Ben Foster denied Huddlestone and then quickly got to his feet to smother Ahmed Elmohamady's effort.

Zoltan Gera and Vydra were both introduced by caretaker boss Keith Downing in the dying stages of the game, and the two combined for the equaliser four minutes from time.

Gera threaded a ball through to Vydra, who showed considerable composure to slot the ball beyond McGregor to rescue a late point for the Baggies.
