West Bromwich Albion are unable to complete a deal for 34-year-old midfielder Mohamed Diame, according to a report.

West Bromwich Albion have been blocked from making a move for 34-year-old midfielder Mohamed Diame, according to a report.

Baggies boss Steve Bruce has been exploring potential options in the free-agent market after he took over from Valerien Ismael at the Hawthorns on February 3 - three days after the winter transfer window shut.

However, Bruce has seen one of those moves fall through according to the Express, with a potential reunion with former West Ham United and Newcastle United midfielder Diame breaking down.

The report claims that Albion were in talks with Diame, but due to work permit regulations brought in following Brexit, a deal was unable to be completed.

Bruce and Diame worked together at Hull City in the past, including during the 2015-16 season in the Championship, when Hull achieved promotion to the Premier League.

The Senegalese midfielder has been without a club since the July 2021, following his departure from Qatari side Al-Ahli SC.

Meanwhile, West Brom's chances of promotion this season took another hit on Saturday, as they were beaten 2-0 by Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.
