Preview: West Ham United Women vs. Arsenal Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between West Ham United Women and Arsenal Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Arsenal Women will look to claim their second win of the Women's Super League season when they make the short trip to the Chigwell Construction Stadium for Sunday's meeting with West Ham United Women.

Meanwhile, the Hammers are searching for their first league victory of the season after failing to win any of their opening four WSL matches.

West Ham have made an underwhelming start to the new WSL season, having drawn two and lost two of their four league games.

The Hammers fell to a 3-0 defeat in their WSL opener against Manchester United, before they played out a draw against Liverpool and lost 2-0 to title hopefuls Manchester City.

West Ham then had to settle for a point in last Sunday's home clash with Everton despite taking the lead through Anouk Denton.

A Camila Saez own goal ultimately denied West Ham all three points, ensuring the Hammers have now gone 13 league WSL matches without a win.

While they face a tough test on Sunday, West Ham's most recent league win did take place in their previous meeting with Arsenal in February when Viviane Asseyi and Hawa Cissoko grabbed a goal apiece in a 2-1 home victory.

Arsenal are currently without a permanent manager after Jonas Eidevall resigned from his position following last Sunday's home game against Chelsea.

Mayra Ramirez and Sandy Baltimore both found the net to condemn Arsenal to a 2-1 defeat, leaving them without a win in three consecutive matches.

Eidevall's assistant Renee Slegers stepped up to lead the team for Wednesday's successful Women's Champions League clash against Valerenga.

Emily Fox, Caitlin Foord, Mariona Caldentey and Alessia Russo all found the net to fire their side to a 4-1 home victory, giving the Gunners a much-needed boost ahead of Sunday's WSL fixture.

Despite their inconsistent form, Arsenal are currently enjoying a four-game unbeaten away league run, having won three and drawn one of their last four WSL road trips since losing to Chelsea in February.

Sunday's visitors know they can ill-afford any slips ups against the Hammers, with five points already separating them from the top of the table.

Team News

West Ham boss Rehanne Skinner will be unable to call upon Kristen Mewis and Jess Ziu due to calf and knee injuries respectively.

Defender Shannon Cooke is pushing for a starting berth after featuring as a half-time substitute in the draw with Everton.

Oona Siren made her first WSL start last weekend, and the summer signing will hope to retain her place for Sunday's home fixture.

As for the visitors, Victoria Pelova and Laura Wienroither are ruled out through injury, while Amanda Ilestedt is currently on maternity leave.

Centre-back Lotte Wubben-Moy will have to be assessed after she was forced to miss the midweek Champions League win due to a concussion.

Lina Hurtig will provide an option off the bench after making her return to action as a late substitute against Valerenga.

West Ham United Women possible starting lineup:

We say: West Ham United Women 1-3 Arsenal Women

Arsenal may have experienced a tumultuous start to the season, but we still believe they have enough quality to claim all three points from Sunday's away fixture, especially as West Ham will be low on confidence after failing to win any of their last 13 league games.
