Jack Collison sets sights on returning next season

Free agent Jack Collison wants to return to competitive football at the start of next season once he has overcome his latest knee problem.

Midfielder Jack Collison has expressed his confidence in making a return to football and targeted the start of next season to do so.

The 26-year-old former West Ham United man hasn't played a competitive game since last May because of persistent knee problems.

He signed a short-term deal with Ipswich Town in September after leaving West Ham, but failed to make an appearance for the Championship side.

Despite having recent offers to sign with a club until the end of the season, Collison is holding out until the summer.

"I've decided to take a bit of time out to make sure I've recovered from injuries," he told BBC Sport.

"I'm going to wait until pre-season and try and get back into it at the start of next year."

Collison has 16 senior caps with Wales and is also hoping to return to the international fold next season.
